Known for exquisite desserts and homemade pastas that incorporate fresh local ingredients, Cucina Paradiso bills itself as a "ristorante Italiano with the true Italian flavor," and few would dispute the claim. Praised by the local press, the strip mall eatery also features a surprisingly impressive repertoire of Californian and Tuscan wines and a pleasant patio.

SONOMA. With its palace-like, quarried stone exterior and wrought iron gate, this attractive trattoria offers an escape from the activity of downtown Sonoma. While the Tuscan-inspired patio offers an idyllic setting for a romantic dinner or peaceful lunch, the intimate main dining area provides a cozy backdrop when the weather turns chilly. PETALUMA. Out-of-towners often make the mistake of passing through Petaluma without paying this friendly eatery a visit ­ shame on them. Set on the street level of the historic Wickersham Building (circa 1850), Graziano's offers a comfy, unpretentious setting where the waitstaff befriends customers and the atmosphere gets more festive as the evening wears on. In addition, amiable chef-owner Graziano Perozzi dazzles with specialties like animelle (veal sweetbreads with mushrooms, brandy, and cream) and eggplant parmigiana (layered with creamy ricotta cheese and fresh tomato sauce).
