In 1857, Ohio native and entrepreneur Harmon Healdsburg came into ownership of northern Sonoma acreage and began laying plans for what he hoped would be the county's newest community. He started with a general store and post office, then sold off $15 parcels of land arranged around a Spanish-style plaza. Just 10 years later, the town of Healdsburg was incorporated.
